LEGISLATIVE ALERT! Congressional Underground Storage Tanks Letter to EPA

Please see attached letter from Reps. Gregg Harper (R-MS) and John Barrow (D-GA) regarding PMAA’s cost concerns with EPA’s underground storage tanks proposed rule.  EPA estimates that the proposed rule will cost $900 per retail station while PMAA estimates it will cost upwards of $6,960 per retail station.  The letter asks EPA to withdraw the proposed rule and form a Small Business Advocacy Review panel (SBAR). Additional UST information is attached. Deadline for signatures is Tuesday, June 25th.

Please contact your Congressmen and ask him or her to sign this letter.  Please share with his or her staffers your concern with the proposed rule’s cost impact on small businesses.  In many cases, a 3rd party will need to be hired to comply with the requirements which will raise costs for all retail stations and increase prices at the pump.   Furthermore, explain to staff that forming a Small Business Advocacy Review panel will allow small business retailers a seat at the table in developing a new proposed rule which will lower compliance costs while still achieving environmental gains.

The staff contact for Republican signees is: Jordan.downs@mail.house.gov (Rep. Harper) and hill.thomas@mail.house.gov (Rep. Barrow).
